How to Tow Your Boat to the Beach

RAM truck towing a boat

It’s about to be beach weather, and this weekend might be the perfect time to hitch your boat to your truck and take it out onto the water. If you’re not sure how to load and tow your boat or you just need a refresher, simply follow these easy tips.

Before you load the boat, redistribute the weight of the equipment on the boat so it’s roughly even in the front, back, and sides. This will make it safer to drive, especially when making turns. Secure the boat to the trailer with ratchet straps and make sure the trailer’s winch strap is attached to the bow eye.

Walk around the vehicle and inspect it to make sure everything is in place and the vehicle and trailer are parallel to the ground. Check the straps and winch again after driving it a mile, then check it again a few miles after that to make sure nothing has come loose.

When driving, give yourself more time to stop, as the boat’s weight will increase your vehicle’s momentum. Drive slowly, and avoid sudden stops or turns. Avoid passing, since you’ll need much more space than usual to do it and it will take longer to get up to passing speed.

These simple safety tips should help you get your boat to the beach for a fun-filled weekend!

How to Change Your Windshield Wipers: A Step-By-Step Process

Change your windshield wipers

If your windshield wipers are in bad shape, they won’t be able to clear your windshield of falling rain and will decrease your visibility in bad weather. So, here’s how to change your windshield wipers when it’s time for new ones!

First, you’ll need to find out what type of wiper-arm mount you have. The three types are hook slot connector, pin type arm, and straight-end connecter. Then follow the appropriate steps below.

Hook Slot Connecter – First, move the blade so it’s sitting straight up. The arm will have a flap that attaches the wiper to the connector. You’ll have to push or pull this, which will release the blade. Do the same to latch the new blade on.

Pin Type Arm – This wiper is very similar to the hook slot connector, except there’s no tab to pull or push. Instead, you’ll find a pin. Press this pin and pull it out to release the blade, and slide it back in to replace the blade. A screwdriver might help in doing this.

Straight-End Connector – You’ll definitely need a screwdriver with this one as it tends to be the most difficult to change. Some of these have a tab you’ll need to release with a screwdriver, and others have a small screw.

Tips to Avoid Car Sickness

Tips to avoid car sickness

Road trips can be fun, but many people tend to get nauseous when riding in the car for an extended period of time. If you have a road trip coming up, don’t worry, because we have listed below some tips to avoid car sickness:

  1. Watch your food and drink consumption – If you drink excessive alcohol and foods or liquids, they can worsen motion sickness or even cause it.
  2. Sit in the front seat – Make sure you call “shotgun” because often, motion sickness is caused by a mismatch between what your eyes are seeing and how your body is interpreting the motion of the vehicle.
  3. Avoid reading – Reading, though it’s a good time-consumer during a road trip, can make you more nauseous.
  4. Crack the car window – Fresh air helps alleviate car sickness and reduce any food odors in the car.
  5. Stabilize your head – Try to lean your head against the headrest to keep it still, or use a neck pillow.
  6. Medication and wrist bands – If your motion sickness is uncontrollable, you can get a prescription from your doctor or get a motion sickness wrist band, which puts pressure on a specific spot on your wrist to prevent nausea.
