How to Tow Your Boat to the Beach

RAM truck towing a boat

It’s about to be beach weather, and this weekend might be the perfect time to hitch your boat to your truck and take it out onto the water. If you’re not sure how to load and tow your boat or you just need a refresher, simply follow these easy tips.

Before you load the boat, redistribute the weight of the equipment on the boat so it’s roughly even in the front, back, and sides. This will make it safer to drive, especially when making turns. Secure the boat to the trailer with ratchet straps and make sure the trailer’s winch strap is attached to the bow eye.

Walk around the vehicle and inspect it to make sure everything is in place and the vehicle and trailer are parallel to the ground. Check the straps and winch again after driving it a mile, then check it again a few miles after that to make sure nothing has come loose.

When driving, give yourself more time to stop, as the boat’s weight will increase your vehicle’s momentum. Drive slowly, and avoid sudden stops or turns. Avoid passing, since you’ll need much more space than usual to do it and it will take longer to get up to passing speed.

These simple safety tips should help you get your boat to the beach for a fun-filled weekend!

Throwing a Tailgate Party on a Budget

Tailgate Party on a Budget

Football season is well underway, and that means you should have had plenty of time to perfect your tailgating game. Just in case you need some tips on dropping the cost for your pre-game parties, here are some tips for having the most fun out of your tailgate party on a budget.

Pro tip #1 – Teamwork is key. Ask your friends to help contribute food, drinks, and supplies to keep costs down. Decide in advance who is in charge of bringing what. Doing so will allow everyone to prepare food at home, instead of buying pre-made snacks and meals, which can get costly.

Pro tip #2 – Don’t buy new. If you need a new grill, tent, table, chairs, or other major supplies ask around. If any of your regular crew owns what you need, see if they mind bringing it along for the games. If not, consider buying used before splurging on brand new equipment.

Pro tip #3 – Take turns driving. If possible, take turns carpooling and driving to the game. This will help to spread the burden of parking costs and gas among everyone in the group. If you don’t want to pay for premium stadium parking, look into other lots in the area. If they aren’t within walking distance, you might be able to find a shuttle or public transportation to get you to the game when the party is over.

How to Jump Start Your Car

Jump Start Your Car

There are certain things every driver should be able to do to stay safe on the road. Knowing how to change a tire and jump start your car are just a few of those things. While jump starting your car can sound complicated, it really isn’t. Take it from us here at Sierra Motors Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, jump starting your car is a pretty easy task!

  1. Start by identifying the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals of both batteries and ends of the jumper cables.
  2. Attach the positive (red) end of your jumper cable to the dead battery’s positive terminal then connect the other end to the live battery’s positive terminal.
  3. Next, attach the negative (black) end of the cable to the live battery’s negative terminal.
  4. The other end of the negative cable needs to be attached to an unpainted piece of metal under the hood. Look for a jumping post. If you can’t find one, unpainted bolts on the engine will suffice.
  5. Once everything’s connected, start the car with the live battery. Rev the engine lightly and let it idle for a few minutes.
  6. Try turning on the car with the dead battery. If it starts, let both cars run for a few minutes. If it doesn’t, wait a few more minutes or call a professional.
  7. To disconnect, remove the cables in the opposite order you put them on (last first).
  8. Once both cars are running and disconnected, shut the hoods and hit the road.

Strategic Vision Total Quality Index Recognizes FCA

Chrysler 300

When we buy almost anything, we are always pitting quantity against quality. Quantity is the amount of money we have to spend. But how do we measure quality? According to Strategic Vision, it is what they call the “total experience.” This includes problems that customers might have with the automobile.

But as Strategic Vision points out, “modern and efficient manufacturing” makes it so that if you base a measure of quality on the number of problems a vehicle has, these days you are still dealing with a huge number of vehicles. That’s why they also take into account “over 155 specific aspects of the customer’s experience.”

After over 46,000 customers’ scores were tallied, the highest corporate Total Quality score went to Fiat Chrysler America. Strategic Vision Senior VP Christopher Chaney said, “It’s hard to not be in admiration of the turn-around achieved by FCA (Chrysler) company employees.”

The Strategic Vision Total Quality Index is a respected measure in industry quality. The company describes itself as a “research-based consultancy.” They’ve been in the business for 35 years.
